Hennepin County’s Broadway Street repaving is currently a pilot project.

This means that based on comparing traffic counts and weighing community feedback,
they will decide whether these changes are temporary or permanent.

The Broadway Street Task Force will be spending Spring 2020
asking the community what they think about the changes so far.

Completed Work in 2019

  • Upgraded pedestrian curb ramps at several intersections throughout the corridor
  • Repaved the roadway between Marshall St NE and Johnson St NE
  • Converted the four-lane roadway to a three-lane roadway between 4th and Jackson Streets and between Tyler and Johnson streets (one lane in each direction with a shared center turn lane)
  • Installed a test closure median at Tyler Street to prohibit left turns
  • Changed the road to one lane in each direction at the railroad bridge at Buchanan Street

Anticipated Work in 2020

  • Repaving between Broadway Street between Johnson Street and Stinson Boulevard
  • Make intersection modifications at Johnson Street to improve sight distance for left turning vehicles
